How to create a Bing Webmaster Tools API key

Bing matters more than people think — Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT browsing and DuckDuckGo all lean on Bing's index. To pull data or push URLs to Bing programmatically (which is how Proofn keeps your AI-search visibility up-to-date), you need an API key from Bing Webmaster Tools.

Before you start

  • You need a Bing Webmaster Tools account with at least one verified site
  • Sign in with the same Microsoft account that owns the site
  • Treat the API key like a password — never share it or paste it into public docs

Step-by-step

  1. Go to bing.com/webmasters and sign in
  2. Click the gear icon (top-right) → API access
  3. Click Generate next to API key
  4. Copy the key shown on screen — you will only see it once
  5. Store it in a secure place (a password manager, or your tool's settings page)

That is it. The key is now active. You can call the Bing Webmaster API endpoints with it as the ?apikey= query parameter or in the request body, depending on the endpoint.

Rotating or revoking the key

Same screen — API access. Click Generate again to create a new key (which immediately invalidates the old one), or use the regenerate option to rotate. There is no separate revoke button — generating a new key is the revoke.
